 MODS AND ROCKERS ...

THE DELTA DALICASTER*
(pictured with Samcat amp mod)

Custom engineered by Samcat Industries in their Cobdonia factory, where traditional design and craftsmanship meet cutting edge technology, specifically a router. Designed for ease of storage and maximum portability, the Dalicaster* comes with an oversize junior classical guitar bag and some old t-shirts to wrap round it inside. Eye-catching space stickers, including a really good one of Saturn, form an attractive border, and on the pictured deluxe limited-edition custom-shop genuine fake-historic reissue relic series Dalicaster*, they glow in the dark. Complete tonal control is now a reality thanks to the Dalicaster's* unique row of little silver switches that make it sound all thin, or not. The patently absurd F-Xolock* bracket enables an old mobile phone case with a fuzz pedal in it to be easily clipped on to the Dalicaster*, placing the power of distortion within fingertip reach. Never before has so little sounded so big. The shape of tomorrow in your hands today. The new slimline minimised Delta Dalicaster* ... why settle for more?

NOW LETS ROCK ...

MESSIN ABOUT ON THE RIVER ….

The video below is a timelapse super 8 filmed onboard the above narrowboat by Sam (of Samcat Industries, Cobdonia).  A day trip from Theale on the Kennet and Avon canal, through central Reading to the river Thames and back.  The music is Soul Man River from my Delta Del : Deltadelic CD.  It was not intended as a soundtrack for this video.  It kinda half almost kinda works, and it mostly doesn't.

And if messin about under the river is more your family’s thing, here’s the ultimate Christmas deterrent for the kids …

IF ANYONE WANTS ME I’M OVER AT STEVE’S ...

It’s a good way to waste a day.  Steve Hoffman’s site has many musical forum threads of interest.  From specific, detailed subjects discussed by knowledgeable obsessives, to splendidly random collections such as for example this one …

https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/obscure-60s-bands-with-surviving-video-footage.520784/

Here’s a video taster from the first page of this ever-extending thread …

Fancy a friendly-ish disagreement about the production on Jimi’s posthumous albums?  There’s probably one happening right now over at Steve’s.  And if there isn't, arm yourself with some controversial views at deadhendrix.blogspot.com and start that healthy rantfest yerself.

DIAMOND DAVE ...

One of my rhythm & blues faves.  The version pictured on this Youtube video is a re-press 45 from a London-based company, might still be available if any jumpin blues DJs or vinylheads are reading this.

Written by Dave Bartholomew a New Orleans bandleader and all-round legend.  Performed by his band with Jewel King on vocals, this was a US chart hit in 1950.  From Jewel's brief Wikipedia entry … “Imperial Records set up a tour for King, headlining over Fats Domino, who also had his first hit record at the time, but King withdrew at the last minute because her husband, Paul Gayten’s guitarist Jack Scott, refused to let her tour with Bartholomew's band.”  Lookin to put a face to a cool voice, I found this ad for the original Imperial single release.  Check the title of the B-side … advice which Jewel herself maybe failed to take …

And here’s another couple of quirky classics from Dave B., plus a nice tribute and summary of his career from NPR …

DONT TRY THIS STUFF AT HOME, KIDS ...

A reminder.  Of the most misguided and mocked campaign ever launched by the record industry.

THE 1974 WINDSOR FREE FESTIVAL

I was at the 1974 Windsor Free Festival, but not the exciting bit.  We had left the festival a few hours before the police moved in and started tearing down tents and arresting people.  I remember nothing of the music from that festival, but I do remember what an extremely close shave it felt like, watching scenes on the national news of people getting dragged out of tents and thrown into police vans.  And at the festival on that last day I remember a police helicopter, which had been buzzing the site relentlessly much to everyone’s annoyance, landed close by.  And everybody jumped up and started running towards it.  It’s the only time I ever felt the power of the mob, swept along with the crowd, wishing I’d brought my pitchfork and flaming torch, and really wanting to hurt that flying machine.  It took off and we roared triumphant abuse as we aimed at the terrified whirlybird with handfuls of mud and twigs.  Ideal nesting material in fact, but of course whirlybirds dont nest.  And as things turned out, the peasants’ victory that day was short-lived.

DELTA DEL DELIVERS ...

No really.  Here are two of my best …

I delivered a purple Nissan pickup from San Diego to New Orleans on a driveaway so that I could go to the 1998 Jazzfest.  Drove flat-out 12 hours a day to get there ahead of time so I could sleep in the cab for the festival weekend and deliver to the customer on Monday.  Got stopped for speeding by a county sheriff in Texas wanted to know if I was carrying any guns or drugs.  I wasn't.  At the festival saw not much jazz in evidence and a lot of great funky bands.  New Orleans is somethin else.  Sub-tropical French colonial Africa in the U.S.A.

I delivered this 23ft Springer narrowboat from London Hampton Court on the Thames to a boatyard in Chester.  The journey took almost 2 weeks cruisin 12 hours a day.  Didn't get stopped for speeding.  The boat was gutted, repainted and converted to a mobile cafe to operate on the Macclesfield and Peak Forest canals.  Pictured below after conversion and above en route on the Thames, I sent the pic above with caption to the owner.  I do like a nice cup of tea.

DELTAPHONIC ...

I’ve been working on a new mobile telecommunications system, I think it’s gonna revolutionise the world’s thinking on such matters.  Without giving too much away, here’s some sketches I knocked up …

And if anyone from the UK Government is reading this and interested in acquiring a world-beating system for plucky little go-it-alone Britain … can I just say screw you bunch of lying Tory shits.
